Where Your Heart Has A Home

Living a Holy Life in Tough Times

1st Peter 5:6-11

The letter of 1st Peter was written to Christians who were trying to remain faithful during tough times. Peter writes them this wonderful letter of encouragement, hope and instruction while never losing sight of the fact that they will suffer in this life.

Our text today is a summary of the letter telling them how to live holy lives in tough times. The summary includes being humble, giving our cares to God, staying watchful and resisting Satan. In this summary, Peter drops in a great truth that is borne out across scripture: God cares about what we are going through.

If you are reading this, you are trying to live a holy life during a challenging time. The pandemic has put a new set of concerns on top of pre-existent life challenges. We are now concerned about our health, about our jobs, about our schools, about whether going to work or school or the store will create health problems for people we love. Some are isolated, lonely and cut off from our support systems. All these are new on top of the natural challenges of life.

This morning let’s be encouraged by what Peter teaches us about Living Holy in Tough Times and take special note that the almighty God of heaven knows us and cares about what we are going through.

If we learn from what Peter wrote for us to read in this text, God has something great in store for us.
